Water by Design has strong strategic support from two important committees – the South East Queensland Steering Committee and the Reef Urban Stormwater Management Group.
These committees provide direction and expertise to ensure the initiative is fit for purpose and achieving its mission of enabling the delivery of best practice sustainable urban water management.
The South East Queensland (SEQ) Steering Committee was established in 2005 to oversee the delivery of urban water management capacity building and strategic planning in SEQ with the aim of improving the ecological condition of our waterways.
Committee members include representatives from the Queensland Government Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI), local governments of the South East Queensland, and water utilities.
Healthy Land & Water facilitate up to four Steering Committee meetings per year as part of the Water by Design member funded program.
The purpose of the Steering Committee meetings is to:
The Reef Urban Stormwater Management Group (RUSMG) was formed in 2009 to address the impacts of urban runoff and support the uptake of sustainable urban water management practices in the Great Barrier Reef region.
It is a collaborative partnership that includes the urban local governments in the Great Barrier Reef catchment, the regional NRM bodies, DESI, the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA).
The principal role of RUSMG is information exchange. RUSMG provides a forum to share experiences and knowledge about sustainable urban stormwater management and related topics.
Water by Design facilitates two RUSMG meetings per year as part of the Great Barrier Reef Urban Stormwater and Erosion and Sediment Control Capacity Building program funded by the Queensland Government Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.
