SWaterbodies are an important part of our landscape and have high environmental, economic, and social value. They are present in our many of our urban and peri-urban landscapes and because they hold open, standing water, have specific management needs that must be considered.
External pressures from current and changing land uses can cause the quality of a waterbody to decline and no longer function effectively. Thus, waterbodies need to be managed with the overall catchment in mind, as many of the impacts are tied to the broader landscape.
Water by Design is working to improve outcomes for waterbodies through the delivery of best practice resources aimed at supporting practitioners in all aspects of waterbody management.
The resources on this site provide tools and guidance to implement best practice waterbody management have been developed by Water by Design with the support of Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) and the Reef Urban Stormwater Management Group (RUSMG) to improve and protect our waterways and the reef.
