Healthy Land & Water is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Trevor Evans as Chairperson of its Board, bringing extensive leadership experience across government, industry, and the sustainability sector.
Mr Evans is a highly respected leader and former Federal Member for Brisbane, with a strong track record of delivering environmental outcomes through collaboration between government, industry, and community.
Trevor Evans, new Chairperson of Healthy Land & Water's Board of Directors.
As we welcome Trevor, we also extend our sincere thanks to outgoing Chair Stephen Robertson for his outstanding leadership over the past decade.
Working with Healthy Land & Water since 2016, Stephen has guided the business through a period of strong growth and impact. With more than 13 years’ experience as a senior Minister in the Queensland Government, he brought deep expertise across portfolios including natural resource management, energy and water, mineral resources, trade, health, and emergency services. He also chaired several national Ministerial Councils, building a strong understanding of governance, decision-making and engagement across government, industry, NGOs and communities.
Stephen Robertson, outgoing Chairperson with 10 years of outstanding leadership.
Since leaving government, Stephen has continued to contribute through a range of Chair and Director roles across environmental sustainability, clean energy, water, health and regional development. He is highly regarded for his strategic insight, collaborative approach, and commitment to science-based solutions for environmental challenges.
We thank Stephen for his significant contribution and lasting legacy, and look forward to building on this strong foundation under Trevor’s leadership.
Mr Evans said he is honoured to take on the role:
“Healthy Land & Water plays a critical role in protecting and restoring our region’s natural environment. I look forward to working with the Board, partners and stakeholders to build on this strong foundation and deliver even greater outcomes for the community and our environment.”
Mr Evans served as Australia’s first dedicated minister responsible for recycling, waste and sustainability, where he led significant national reforms. His work included spearheading initiatives to prevent Australia’s waste being exported overseas and contributing to the development of a landmark national waste strategy agreed across all levels of government.
Mr Evans’ career spans senior roles in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Retail Association, where he led a period of transformational growth and strengthened the organisation’s advocacy and industry impact. Earlier in his career, he worked as an investigator with the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, an economist with the Queensland Competition Authority, and held roles with Seqwater and within the Australian Parliament.
His experience operating across policy, regulation, and industry enables him to bring a well-rounded perspective to environmental leadership and governance.
Importantly, Mr Evans has a longstanding connection with Healthy Land & Water, having worked closely with the organisation during his time as the Federal Member for Brisbane to support funding and delivery of projects that improve the health of South East Queensland’s waterways and landscapes.
Healthy Land & Water looks forward to Mr Evans’ leadership as the organisation continues to drive evidence-based solutions that protect and sustain the region’s land and water assets.
