Kedron Brook Riverine Recovery - Stage 3 is going ahead!
We are excited to announce that Stage 3* of the Kedron Brook Flood Recovery project has just been approved and is commencing this month.
Program snapshot as of today:
|
This phase of the project will focus on seeking relevant permits and state approvals for the detailed designs developed during Stage 2 at the three priority sites along the reach.
Detailed designs, featuring nature-based solutions, were developed by Bligh Tanner during Stage 2. Proposed works are confined to the channel and immediately adjacent riparian areas
Should any designed interventions be located adjacent to your property, the Healthy Land & Water team will contact you directly to discuss the designs and proposed works requirements.
We'll also continue our community engagement and education efforts by sharing resources and keeping you informed about our progress and any developments.
Resources for residents
We've put together a set of resources that are freely available to all residents - whether you attended our Stage 2 workshops, you are just curious, or you are starting your bank restoration journey.
Check out our resources here: https://hlw.org.au/get-involved/kedron-brook-resources
We've got:
• PDF version of the workbook given to workshop participants in Stage 2 (Kedron Brook Riverine Recovery Workbook).
• All the questions people asked (and answers!) during workshops.
• Detailed videos, produced by the local bush regeneration group Bushtekniq (check out their website. If you are local and need extra muscle, they are your local crew invested in improving Kedron Brook!), covering practical sessions on:
- Erosion https://youtu.be/jNxIfFdqILg.
- Weeding https://youtu.be/3jZaoZfFnRM.
- Planting https://youtu.be/_L1EDm0pFiQ.
Note: We've added captions (subtitles) to all videos. These may automatically appear depending on your YouTube settings. Should you wish to turn them on or off while watching, you can do so by clicking the "CC" button in the bottom right corner of the YouTube video player.
Our aim is to help you understand more about environmental recovery and offer practical information and knowledge. Stay tuned! We will send out more resources/communications as we go.
What has been done so far
The Stage 1: detailed assessment phase included comprehensive site assessments (hydrological, geomorphological, and ecological) to inform Stage 2 designs, alongside a tailored communications plan to engage stakeholders and harness local knowledge.
In Stage 2: detailed designs, the project engaged local property owners through hands-on workshops, provided community resources (workbooks, Q&As, instructional videos), and collaborated with Bligh Tanner on technical assessments to develop nature-based solution designs for three priority reaches along Kedron Brook, which are being submitted for state approval.
