We are pleased to announce that the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) and Healthy Land & Water have renewed their strong commitment to work together during a special ceremony, marked at the re-signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the groups.
Healthy Land & Water has been busy completing small and large earthworks projects as part of the Healthy Catchments Program, funded by the Department of Environment and Science (DES).
Fire has played a critical role in the evolution of the Australian landscape. Natural processes such as lightning strikes, together with the traditional burning practices of Indigenous Australians have molded and changed our landscape over millions of years.
As part of its work within the Moreton Bay Ramsar Wetland (funded by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program), Healthy Land & Water is working with local Traditional Owners (Kabi Kabi and Joondoburri people), the Queensland Fire and Biodiversity Consortium, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Vegetation Management Services, and Turnstone Archaeology to reconsider the role of fire in the culturally rich landscapes of Bribie Island.
Healthy Land & Water recently joined forces with local catchment groups and Habitat Brisbane volunteers to plant more than 500 trees, shrubs and ground covers along a section of Enoggera Creek in Davidson Street Park, Brisbane.
