Reversing the tide of degradation By injecting more investment into the ground, we can collectively turn the tide of environmental degradation in South East Queensland. |

During the run-up to the State election, several parties made commitments to proactively support environmental initiatives. The Liberal National Party (LNP) pledged to significantly increase environmental spending, announcing an investment of $117.84 million into NRMRQ’s ‘Nurturing Nature: Cultivating Culture’ campaign if elected to government.
We welcome the LNP’s green election commitment and look forward to working together to protect the health and resilience of our State and its people by investing in conservation and biodiversity.
This investment would be channeled into deploying more on-ground work with our communities to deliver landscape-scale outcomes for the environment, disaster resilience, and the economy.
It would increase the activity needed to deliver significant outcomes for threatened species, waterways and coasts, sustainable agriculture, disaster recovery and resilience, biosecurity and engaging First Nations people.
With invasive species being the leading cause behind 4 of Australia’s 5 mammal extinctions, and more than 88% of Queensland’s land is used for primary production, increased investment into our shared environment is more important than ever.
Healthy Land & Water applauds the commitments to the environment made by major parties coming up to the Queensland Government election. With an Australian Government election on the cards for next year, we are currently putting together federally focussed priorities, and will be actively calling on all sides of politics to step up to the plate to protect the health and resilience of our region and its people by investing in conservation and biodiversity.
