Project grants available for protected heritage sites
Grants of up to $400,000 are now open to Traditional Owners, community groups, individuals and state and territory governments for projects that protect, restore and manage National Heritage-listed places. Applications for the 2024-25 grant round are open until 25 October 2024.
Australia’s Heritage-listed places are in the spotlight with the 2024-25 round of the Australian Heritage Grants now open.
Over $5 million in funding is available to conserve and protect places of historic and national heritage value.
Grants between $25,000 and $400,000 are open to Traditional Owners, community groups, individuals and state and territory governments for projects that protect, restore and manage National Heritage-listed places.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
- Support owners and managers of heritage places, along with community groups, and other non-government entities to protect places recognised for their outstanding historic and natural heritage values to the nation.
- Provide funding to strengthen recognition, management, conservation and public engagement of/on places in Australia that are included in the National Heritage List.
You can apply if you meet the eligibility criteria:
- Are an eligible entity.
- Have an eligible project.
- Are a site owner or manager of a National Heritage List place or have a current letter of support from the owner/manager.
- Have eligible expenditure.
- Can meet your share of the project costs.
Last year’s projects received more than $4 million in funding. Grant recipients included:
- Fossilised dinosaur footprints in the West Kimberley in Western Australia.
- World Heritage-listed K’gari (Fraser Island) received funds to protect the island from invasive weeds, pests and diseases including biosecurity staff and rangers.
- The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Darlington Probation Station on Maria Island in Tasmania.
- North Head Quarantine Station in Sydney which helped protect Australia from disease for 150 years.
