Kicking off Kedron Brook
The Kedron Brook Flood Recovery project is aimed at improving waterway health by reducing streambank erosion, restoring riparian vegetation and improving the resilience of the waterway to future flooding events.
The potential for a detailed instream rehabilitation design for the impacted reach is being informed by: |
The project is focused on a section of Kedron Brook bounded by Dawson Parade and Osbourne Road in the suburbs of Keperra, Mitchelton, Everton Hills, Everton Park and Arana Hills (check out our handy map!). This area was earmarked for urgent review by the Queensland Government due to damage sustained during the February 2022 floods.
We are currently in the earliest phase of the project and the project delivery team are actively engaging with key stakeholders including Brisbane City Council, City of Moreton Bay, First Nations, and landholders.
The project will be delivered in stages to enable consultation and planning to occur with key stakeholders and preliminary engineering, environmental and technical surveys to be undertaken. The first stage of this project is an investigation only.
Stage 1 investigations will include:
This stage will determine next steps and inform decisions on whether future stages progress. The findings will help understand the scope, cost and potential impact of waterway rehabilitation options in this urban environment.
Stage 1 of the project is due to be completed by March 2024. If the detailed assessment and investigations support progression of the project, it is expected all stages of a larger project would be delivered by 30 June 2026.
This project is supported by Healthy Land & Water, with assistance provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
