The project provides waterway restoration support to landholders along the Albert River.
The project works towards achieving the actions set out in the Logan and Albert Catchment Action Plan and complementing the works completed by the City of Gold Coast on the southern side of the river.
The initiative has involved 9 properties and 2 council parks, covering approximately 1.6 hectares.
Various programs provided support to private properties, enhancing results more efficiently.
Collaboration with partners ensures project success on the ground and for the people and communities in the local areas.
In 2023, Logan City Council and Resilient Rivers embarked on a joint effort to provide waterway restoration support to landholders along the Albert River.
The targeted region is identified in the Logan and Albert Catchment Action Plan to develop a continuous Albert River riparian corridor between Cedar Creek and the Stanmore Road Bridge.
The project focuses on a comprehensive program of weed management, riparian planting, and active landowner engagement. These efforts have already yielded significant results, with 2 kilometres of riverbank undergoing weed control and restoration works. This not only enhances the river’s ecological health but also improves habitats for important species like the platypus, which inhabit this section of the river.
The success of this initiative demonstrates the power of community collaboration and targeted environmental action in creating a more resilient and thriving Albert River ecosystem.
Resilient Rivers and Logan City Council deliver a Landholder Gathering for landowners along the target reach of the Albert River.
This event provides a welcoming environment for community to learn about support that is available to them to help them improve habitat and the waterways on their properties.
