Vegetation loss is the destruction of native vegetation. It is primarily caused by land clearing, but other major causes include bushfire and overexploitation.
Native vegetation is defined as vegetation which is made up of over 70% native species, or which contains populations of species listed under the EPBC Act. Land clearing includes removal of native vegetation for crops, improved pasture, plantations, mining, houses, buildings and roads.
Loss of native vegetation is a major threat to biodiversity in South East Queensland.
