Invasive Species

The establishment of species occurring outside their natural range has threatened to permanently remove our native plants and wildlife, and cause harmful effects on our ecological communities, ecosystems and landscapes.

The predation of invasive cats, foxes and the black rat has been the cause of extinction for many species of Australian mammals. Likewise, the introduction of exotic plants has had far-reaching negative impacts on Australia’s biodiversity. In particular, it has led to a decrease in productivity of agriculture and has impacted access to sacred sites of our Indigenous cultural heritage.
