Rubbish ending up in our waterways provides a constant threat to marine animals fighting against as abandoned nets, fishing lines and discarded food wraps.

Meanwhile, nutrient pollution caused by excess nitrogen and phosphorus is affecting water quality. These pollutants trigger fluctuations in pH levels and dissolved oxygen which stress and cull sensitive marine species.

Nitrogen and phosphorus is found in industrial and urban stormwater, excessive fertiliser used in agriculture areas, and from soil erosion resulting from land clearing.
