Margie Milgate, Board Member – SEQCMA
Margie brings a wealth of experience from her career with agricultural peak bodies and organizations like RCS.
Margie Milgate’s role on the SEQCMA Board is as a representative for the rural sector. Margie grew up on a mixed dryland grazing and cropping enterprise in central west NSW. After a banking career, Margie became more in involved in agriculture after completing a Bachelor of Business (Agricultural Commerce) at Orange Agricultural College in 1991. In 1992 Margie found herself in Queensland working with the Queensland Fruit and Vegetable Growers and was instrumental in the development of several on-farm certification programs. These were the Freshcare Food Safety and Quality program launched in 2000, and then the Freshcare Environmental Code of Practice. This last certification program was developed after Queensland enacted the Environment Protection Act and agricultural businesses need to demonstrate their “duty of care for the environment”.
Margie has also worked and maintained close working relationships with other leading national and state grower associations including Resource Consulting Services (RCS), Growcom, National Farmers’ Federation, Passionfruit Australia, and the Australian Blueberry Growers Association. She is passionate about spreading the word about regenerative agricultural practices and keeps up to date as a member of Healthy Soils Australia and the Australia and New Zealand Biochar Industry Group (ANZBIG). Margie also holds a Master of Environmental Management in the field of Sustainable Development and is currently a recognised Freshcare Trainer.
