Dr Samantha Capon is an ecologist with a background in the ecology and management of riverine and wetland ecosystems, especially their vegetation and particularly in dryland regions.

She leads a small but dedicated group of researchers that collectively form the RaW (Riparian and Wetland) Ecology Lab and she is also the Head of the Environment and Marine Discipline in the School of Environment and Science at Griffith University, dedicated to delivering world-class tertiary education in ecology and conservation, marine science, soil and water science, urban ecology, and environmental management.

Much of her work focuses on informing water and land management to protect, enhance, and restore these ecosystems in human-dominated landscapes. Dr Capon also has expertise in climate change adaptation and is passionate about environmental ethics and the philosophy of ecological science, especially about its role in addressing current global challenges.

In her current role as Director of the Sciences Partnerships Office, she also plays a leading role in developing industry partnerships through the delivery of student collaborations, including Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Higher Degree Research (HDR) internships.

Dr Samantha Capon holds a PhD in Ecology from Griffith University and a Master of Arts majoring in Philosophy from the University of New England (AU) and is skilled in Applied Ecology, Environmental Water Science, Climate change Adaptation, Ecological Restoration, Ecological Monitoring and Evaluation, Science Engagement and Science Communication.
