The Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) is entering its ninth year of collecting valuable data to monitor frog populations. They’re calling on citizen scientists or ‘froggers’ to observe and report frogs in your area, helping to keep these important creatures safe and healthy.
A new study estimates that more than 9000 insects and other native invertebrates have become extinct in Australia since European arrival in 1788 and between 1–3 additional species become extinct every week.
Invertebrates include species such as worms, snails and spiders, and many more play a crucial role in the environment – such as pollinators and earthworms, which are important for maintaining soil health.

Hot on the heels of the past decade which has seen devastating drought, flooding and bushfires, and with the frequency and intensity of these climate-driven events expected to increase over time, Healthy Land & Water has proactively developed the Biodiversity and Agricultural Capital Assets Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan to strengthen SEQ’s disaster resilience and recovery.
This plan documents ways to reduce the impacts of these catastrophic events and protect SEQ’s vital natural capital assets.
In December last year, Healthy Land & Water team members, Indigo, Gabriela, Natalie (pictured) and Samantha attended the 2024 Ecological Society of Australia (ESA) conference.
The four-day event held in Melbourne brought together ecologists and practitioners from across the country to hear from leaders in their field, attend workshops and network with their peers.
