Time is running out to enter the 2018 Healthy Land and Water Awards!
Do you know someone working to improve or protect the environment? Then enter them now into the prestigious 2018 Healthy Land and Water Awards before entries close on May 1!
Individuals, groups, schools and organisations could share in $19,000 prize money if they successfully win one of the 11 award categories up for grabs.
Established in 2000, the Healthy Land and Water Awards recognise the passion and dedication of people working on the ground to improve and protect South East Queensland’s environment.
Healthy Land and Water Chief Executive Officer Julie McLellan said the Awards allowed entrants to increase awareness and support for their work, celebrate their achievements and inspire others to take action.
“If you know someone that deserves recognition - whether it be a community group removing rubbish from a waterway, a farmer managing their land in a sustainable way, or a school planting trees in bushland - nominate them for an award on our website before entries close on May 1.”
In 2017, Milton State School's Sustainability Committee claimed the Water Warrior Award for its work to establish the Milton Sustainability Legacy, an initiative to promote the benefits of living sustainably to a new generation of young people.
Milton State School Sustainability Captain Talise Lynagh (pictured) said the Awards was a great experience and the recognition the school received encouraged more people to get involved in the school's sustainability projects.
"We were really happy when we won because lots of us worked hard on things like our herb garden. It felt good to be recognised," she said.
"(The Awards) were fun to be a part of and by winning I think more people learnt about what we do and wanted to be part of our projects."
