Springfield Lakes Nature Care

Humans as Apex Predators
Springfield Lakes and surrounding suburbs

Springfield Lakes Nature Care (SLNC), located south-west of Ipswich, is an environment group launched in 2017 that works to empower community members to protect and enhance the region’s native flora and fauna.

Due to the impact caused by cane toads and Indian Mynas in the Springfield Lakes region, SLNC launched its Humans as Apex Predators project aimed at minimising the chances of these invasive species dominating the local ecosystem. During 2017, the group humanely captured and euthanised 304 adult toads and 1000 toadlets, and caught at least 37 Indian Mynas using specifically designed cages.
