Finalist: Science Innovation Award
As a City of Gold Coast Catchment Management Project Officer, Belinda Durand was tasked with safeguarding the health and safety of athletes and officials involved in the swim course of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games triathlon event. Belinda oversaw the Triathlon Water Quality Project which utilised emerging laboratory analysis techniques to measure water quality and human health indicators. Modelling techniques were also incorporated to determine how water quality would be affected by the intensity and frequency of rainfall during the Games.
Belinda helped develop City of Cold Coast’s breadth and insight into recreational water management and oversaw a project that delivered long-term benefits for Gold Coast natural environment and the the people that call the region home.
