Finalist: Healthy Habitat Award
Since 2005, an army of volunteers and contractors led by Austinville Landcare have worked together to restore a picturesque patch of the Austinville Valley along Mudgeeraba Creek in the Gold Coast Hinterland. The project began in earnest in 2005 when Austinville Landcare was formed to remove and manage invasive weeds infiltrating the valley.
In 2017, the group launched its most recent project to restore a 7-kilometre of critically-endangered sub-tropical lowland rainforest. Austinville Landcare’s passionate volunteers, skilful planning and its expertise in securing ongoing grants has culminated in the restoration of 11 kilometres of valley, a wonderful result for the wildlife, flora and people whom call it home.
