Finalist: Water Warrior Award
Ambrose Treacy College
Since 2016, a student body from Ambrose Treacy College known as the Eco Warriors have been the driving force behind a project to regenerate a patch of rainforest at Indooroopilly known as Brother’s Gully. With the goal of creating an inviting natural habitat for wildlife, the students have removed weeds and planted native trees including birdwing vine.
The enthusiastic Eco Warriors often work in their own time to nurture and maintain the habitat and have so far successfully planted 120 native trees. Less than two years since the inception of the project, the population of native fauna has increased in Brother’s Gully, and the habitat is now a learning space for the entire school community.
