Protecting seahorses from killer algae
Moreton Bay

The University of Queensland’s Fish Lab is conducting research into critical habitat for Moreton Bay’s pipefish and seahorses, and why they rely so heavily on local seagrasses for survival. These seagrasses are being lost to a native seaweed known as Caulerpa taxifolia. With previous research demonstrating that pipefish and seahorses are significantly less abundant in C. taxifolia beds than in seagrasses. The Fish Lab project is also determining how these seagrasses can be better conserved to maintain healthy pipefish and seahorse populations in Moreton Bay.
