Sunshine Coast Council
TurtleCare Sunshine Coast consists of 135 registered community volunteers who monitor and protect marine turtle nestings on Sunshine Coast beaches between North Bribie Island to the Maroochy River. These volunteers identify and record species, nesting locations, frequency, success rates of nesting activity and protect the nests from fox predation.
Due to the efforts of TurtleCarers, fox predation has decreased from 27% down to 3% over a ten year period and in the 2015/2016 turtle nesting season, the monitoring and protection of 66 nests equated to over 3000 extra hatchlings released into the ocean.
