Brisbane City Council's Aquatic Weed Biocontrol

Brisbane City Council’s Aquatic Weed Biocontrol is a controlled breeding facility that delivers a sustainable alternative to traditional aquatic weed control methods that can disturb the natural environment and its biodiversity. In 2016, the program delivered millions of biocontrol agents across South East Queensland, North Queensland and the Northern Territory, the outcome saw over 55 hectares of water weed under control.

Biological control agents are species such as weevils. They produce no pollution, create minimal disturbance, are cost and labour efficient, work 24/7 and if introduced correctly will provide lasting control, without retreatment, along the length of a waterway without the impacts associated with mechanical or chemical treatments.
