Tangaroa Blue Foundation
Tangaroa Blue Foundation is a coordinator of the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI), a national network of volunteers, community organisations, Indigenous Rangers, industry and government bodies contributing to the removal and mitigation of marine debris from our waterways and oceans.
In 2015, Tangaroa Blue Foundation worked with community groups, industry and government to conduct 95 beach clean ups across South East Queensland as part of the AMDI. Over 4 tonnes of rubbish consisting of more than 87,000 items of litter were collected.
The marine debris data collected by Tangaroa Blue Foundation was utilised through the AMDI to provide advice to local stakeholders, and to encourage communities to prevent marine debris and promote long term change.
