2016 Winner: Sustainable Education Award
In 2015, Tangalooma EcoMarines grew significantly as an organisation and overcame challenges to obtain funding for the development of their programs.
The organisation worked with primary schools across South East Queensland to educate students and the community about the importance of environmental protection, particularly for the waterways and marine life of Moreton Bay. In 2015, participating schools grew from six to 16.
Tangalooma EcoMarines worked to reduce plastic use, reduce waste to the Bay, promote environmental awareness for thousands of children and provide knowledge, confidence, communication and leadership skills for over 70 student Ambassadors.
Student EcoMarine Ambassadors were a positive influence in their schools, acquiring environmental, communication and leadership skills and taking action across the region to reduce plastics and litter in our waterways and contributing to long-term change for Moreton Bay.
