Finalist: Sustainable Education Award
Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre and P&C Association
The Numinbah Hall Riparian Restoration Project raised awareness of the importance of riparian vegetation in controlling erosion, maintaining water quality and providing wildlife habitat.
In a collaborative process, a high profile local site was revegetated using carefully selected native plant species. The project removed environmental weeds over a two-hectare site next to the community hall in Numinbah Valley, and planted approximately 2,500 rare and threatened native plants across the site.
The project also helped to stabilise a steep gully which flows directly into the Nerang River, minimising erosion and potentially improving water quality in the river.
