Finalist: Lifetime Achievement Award
Helen Forrest established Pelican and Seabird Rescue to provide a dedicated service for the rescue and rehabilitation of injured or stranded seabirds. Helen has dedicated her life to educating the public, in particular school groups, to the effects of debris on marine wildlife. In 2012 Helen joined forces with the Totally Wild team to air a segment on the problems associated with feeding aquatic wildlife that co-exist in many waterways within South East Queensland. Helen has also assisted with the cleanup of many major events over the years, such as the 2009 oil spill and the 2013 flooding of Wivenhoe Dam.
Rescue, rehabilitate, release, reduce and re-educate are the five words that underpin Helen’s vision and purpose for Pelican and Seabird Rescue.
