Bunya to the Bay 2010

Bunya to the Bay is an Education Queensland initiative conducted by the Stanley River Environmental Education Centre and presented by Seqwater.  The 2010 project involved a group of 31 teenage students, known as River Ambassadors, from schools across South East Queensland as well as their teachers. They travelled the length of the Brisbane River – from the Bunya forests of the South Burnett, to the waters of Moreton Bay. As the students hiked, cycled, paddled and navigated their way along the river, they studied a particular area of interest while focussing on the central theme: “What is the Future of our Waterways?”

During the 2010 project, students from 3 primary schools joined the journey for a day trip while students from 27 other schools became involved online via the Bunya to the Bay virtual field trip.

Bunya to the Bay has significantly raised the profile of the environmental issues facing our waterways by generating publicity in print and electronic media including a message from the Minister for Education to all schools in Queensland. It also provided an immediate positive learning experience for students, with many saying it was life changing.
